EPL: Bournemouth Appoint Ex-Leipzig Boss Marco Rose As Iraola Successor

AFC Bournemouth have confirmed the appointment of Marco Rose as their new head coach on a three-year deal, with the German set to succeed Andoni Iraola at the end of the season.

The move brings an end to weeks of speculation over the club’s long-term direction, following confirmation that Iraola will leave this summer after deciding not to extend his contract.

In a statement obtained from the club’s website on Monday, Bournemouth said: “Marco Rose is an experienced and highly respected head coach with a proven record at the highest level of European football. We are delighted to appoint him as our new manager and believe he is the right fit to continue our progress.”

Rose, 49, arrives after leaving RB Leipzig in March 2025 and has previously managed Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Red Bull Salzburg, where he earned a reputation for aggressive pressing systems and developing young talent.

Speaking after his appointment was confirmed, Rose said he was excited by the challenge of working in the Premier League.

“This is a fantastic club with a clear identity and ambition,” Rose said. “I’ve followed Bournemouth’s progress closely, and the energy around the team is very impressive. My goal is to build on what has already been achieved and help take the club to the next level.”

Iraola, who will remain in charge until the end of the campaign, also reflected on his time at the club.

“It has been a privilege to work at Bournemouth,” he said. “We have built something special together, and I’m proud of the way the players and staff have developed. For now, the focus is on finishing the season strongly.”

The club had reportedly considered several candidates, including Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town and Inigo Perez of Rayo Vallecano, before settling on Rose due to his Champions League experience and track record of elevating teams competing above expectations.

Bournemouth are currently aiming to consolidate a strong Premier League campaign, with European qualification still within reach as the season enters its final stretch.
