Court Jails Woman 10 Years For Trafficking In 76.30kg of Marijuana
A Lagos based-woman, Omolade Abigail Jolayemi, has been convicted and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for trafficking in 76.30 Kilogrames of cannabis sativa, popularly called marijuana, by a Federal High Court, Lagos.
Omolade a resident of 13, Carter Street, Ebute-metta, Lagos, was given the jail-term today, by Justice Akintayo Aluko, after she pleaded guilty to two counts charge made against her by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The prosecutor, Barrister Abu Ibrahim, during the convict’s arraignment, informed the court that she was arrested with the banned substance on March 26, 2026.
Abu who is a Commander of Narcotics (CN) also told the court that the convict procured one Sarah Zainab Agbabiaka, to trafficked the prohibited weeds
He further informed the court that the convict used an apartment in her premises at 13, Carter Street, Ebute-metta, Lagos, to unlawfully stored and concealed the 76.30 Kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, a.k.a. marijuana.
The prosecutor told the court that the illegal acts of the convict, contravened sections 21 (1) (e) and 12 of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and  and punishable under section 11(b) of the same act.
Following the convict’s guilty plea to the offences, a witness, Ogunrinde Adunola Adeyemi, an operative with the narcotic agency, tendered all the exhibits in the matter and same were admitted by the court.
Consequently, the prosecutor prayed the court to convict and sentence her based on her plea, exhibits tendered and in accordance with Sections 274(2) and 356(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.
However, the convict’s lawyer, Barrister Dennis Warri, in his allocutor, pleaded with the court to tamper justice with mercy in sentencing his client.
Barrister Warri, also prayed the court not to award th maximum sentence, as his client was a first time offender, who did not waste the precious time of the court, among others.
He particularly prayed the court to give his client a non-custodian sentence in lieu of the imprisonment.
In his judgment, Justice Aluko after listening to the counsel submissions and cited series of legal authorites, sentenced the convict to five years imprisonment in each of the counts.
The judge however ordered the convict to pay the sum of N3 million for count one and N2 million for count two of the charge .
The judge also ordered that the convict’s two phones, a TECNO CL6K and Samsung Galaxy M22 black colour used as instrumentality in the offence be forfeited to the Federal government of Nigeria.
The judge also ordered that the bulk of the prohibited drug be destroyed if there is no appeal against the judgment.
Charges against the convicted woman read: “that you Omolade Abigail Jolayemi, female, adult on or about the 26th March 2026 at No.13, Carter Street, Ebute-Metta, Oyingbo, Lagos State procured one Sarah Zainab Agbabiaka to traffic in 76.30 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, a Narcotic Drug similar to Cocaine, LSD, Heroin and you thereby committed an act which is an offence contrary to section 21 (1) (e) and punishable under section 11(b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
“That you Omolade Abigail Jolayemi, female, adult on or about the 26th March 2026 at No.13, Carter Street, Ebute, Metta, Oyingbo, Lagos State being the occupier of the an apartment at the said premises unlawfully permits and/or causes the premises to be used for the purposes of storing and concealing of 76.30 Kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, a Narcotic Drug similar to Cocaine, LSD, Heroin and you thereby committed an act which is an offence contrary to and punishable under section 12 of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”
