Edo Security Outfit Asks Businesses To Install CCTV By July 30

‎The Edo State Security Squad has directed business owners across the state to install Closed-Circuit Television cameras at their premises on or before July 30 as part of efforts to strengthen security and tackle crime.

‎The spokesperson for the squad, Noah Idemudia, announced the directive on Monday while briefing journalists in Benin City.

‎He said functional CCTV cameras would improve the ability of security agencies to investigate crimes, identify suspects and obtain evidence for prosecution.

‎”Business owners are encouraged to install effective, working cameras within their business premises. We appeal to the general public and the business community to comply for everyone’s safety,” he said.

‎He added that footage obtained from the cameras would provide investigators with crucial evidence needed to unravel criminal activities and improve public safety.

‎The spokesperson also warned against planned “7/7″ celebrations allegedly being organised by cult groups, saying security agencies were prepared to arrest and prosecute anyone involved.

‎“We are already taking action. You cannot carry out such acts in Benin City. Even if you go outside Benin, you will still be apprehended,” he said.

‎Idemudia urged those planning to participate in the celebrations to abandon the idea, warning that offenders would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

‎Idemudia also disclosed that the security squad recently arrested two suspects in Auchi and Uromi over alleged cultism and unlawful possession of firearms.

‎According to him, the suspects will be arraigned before the mobile court established by the Edo State Government to fast-track the prosecution of persons accused of cultism, kidnapping and other related offences.
