Tinubu Congratulates Samson Adamu On His Appointment As Acting CAF General Secretary

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian football administrator, Samson Adamu, on his historic appointment as Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football, describing it as a proud moment for Nigeria and the West African subregion.

The President notes that Mr Adamu’s appointment, announced on Saturday, March 29, 2025, marks the first time a Nigerian has occupied the top administrative position in CAF since its establishment in 1957.

Mr Adamu, who previously served as Director of Tournaments and Events at CAF, assumes the role in an acting capacity, following the departure of Veron Mosengo-Omba.

President Tinubu describes the appointment as a significant milestone for Nigerian sports and a strong affirmation of the country’s enduring leadership and influence in African football administration.

The President commends Mr Adamu’s track record of excellence, professionalism, and dedication, particularly his contributions to the successful organisation and delivery of major CAF competitions, which have elevated the standard of football events across the continent.

President Tinubu further notes that the appointment comes at a time of renewed focus on sports development in Nigeria, under his administration’s broader commitment to youth empowerment, national unity, and global competitiveness.

He expresses confidence that Mr Adamu will bring his wealth of experience, strategic insight, and administrative competence to bear in strengthening CAF’s operations and advancing the growth of football across its 54 member associations.

The President wishes him success in his acting role and assures him of Nigeria’s full support as he undertakes this historic responsibility.
