AFCON: Super Eagles Arrive In Marrakesh Ahead Of Algeria Clash
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have landed in Marrakesh ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations quarter‑final clash with Algeria on Saturday.
Saturday’s clash will be a stern test for the Nigerian team as they seek to maintain momentum and keep alive hopes of lifting a fourth AFCON title.
In a video shared on X (formerly twitter) by photojournalist, Sulaimon Adebayo, also known as Pooja, on Thursday, the Super Eagles were seen being welcomed by the people of Marrakech.
The Super Eagles are eyeing a place in the semifinals after a dominant showing in the Round of 16 and a tense build‑up off the pitch.
The three‑time continental champions sealed their spot in the last eight with a comprehensive 4–0 victory over Mozambique in Fès, extending their perfect run at the tournament.
The build‑up to Saturday’s high‑stakes encounter has been clouded by controversy over unpaid bonuses, with reports of player unrest and threats to boycott training or travel.
Those concerns have been allayed after the National Sports Commission confirmed that all outstanding allowances and match bonuses have now been approved and are in the process of being disbursed, clearing a major hurdle for the team as they focus fully on their quarter‑final task.
