Read Tinubu’s Condolence Message On Passing Of Agunwa Anaekwe
With profound sadness, I mourn the passing of one of our nation’s eminent legislators, Right Honourable Agunwa Anaekwe, who served as Speaker of the House of Representatives in the Third Republic (1992-1993).
I commiserate with his family, the government, and the people of Anambra State.
I was a member of the National Assembly in the Third Republic, and I vividly recall the sacrifices of those who dared the military authorities.
Chief Anaekwe was a bold, courageous, and disciplined leader. He provided the needed leadership in parliament during utter chaos and rudderlessness. He was a true democrat and well-versed parliamentarian.
With the return of democratic governance in 1999, the former Speaker continued to play an important part in nation-building. In 2006, he helped found the Action Congress (AC) in Anambra State and was the first interim state chairman.
He was also a member of our party’s National Caucus, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
I believe his diligent service to Nigeria will continue to inspire other legislators and administrators throughout the decades.
I pray that God Almighty grant him eternal rest and his family the strength to bear this painful loss.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR
President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces
Federal Republic of Nigeria
