Ekiti APC, Youths Pass Confidence Vote In Deputy Governor
The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has passed a vote of confidence in the deputy governor, Mrs Monisade Afuye, as party youths also endorsed her renomination to re-contest alongside Governor Biodun Oyebanji in 2026.
The APC and the youths, in separate statements in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, dismissed a call by a group, Concerned APC Patriots, for Afuye to be dropped from the 2026 ticket.
The Concerned APC Patriots, had in a statement by its convener, Joshua Ademola, on Monday, rejected the renomination of the deputy governor for a second term ticket.
APC State Publicity Secretary, Segun Dipe, described Afuye as a loyal, qualified and competent representative of the party in government.
He said, “The deputy governor matches the governor well, and there is no reason for anyone to call for her removal from office. Not only is such a call unnecessary, but the party also lacks the power to grant it.”
The APC called on the public to disregard what it called “a distraction in governance.”
“We can further confirm that Mrs Afuye is a good complement to the governor, Oyebanji, in the day-to-day running of the affairs of the state. The governor on the other hand has not once complained of Mrs Afuye’s performance in office as deputy governor,” Dipe said.
Similarly, APC Youth Leader in Ikere Local Government, Fatai Bello, dismissed the criticisms as “baseless, spurious and laced with enmity and jealousy,” alleging that the group was being sponsored by hidden forces.
Bello said, “Mrs Afuye remains the best option for APC on account of her unparalleled loyalty, political wizardry and vast knowledge of statutory duties attached to her office.”
The youths appealed to Ekiti people “to rebuff any agent provocateur, who are being goaded to act as party men to ruffle the feathers and throw a spanner in the wheel of progress of our dear state.”
