APC Wins Kano Assembly Seat In By-election

The All Progressives Congress has won the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa State Constituency by-election in Kano State by a margin of 22,620 votes, with its candidate, Hussaini Yusuf-Datti, polling 22,890 votes.

The result announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Saturday showed that Yusuf-Datti defeated his closest challenger, Habib Hamisu of the Peoples Redemption Party, who secured 270 votes.

The returning officer for the election, Ibrahim Tajo-Suraj, declared the APC candidate the winner in Dawakin Kudu after the collation of the results.

The Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Abdullahi Adamu, came third with 108 votes, while Bala Mohammed-Sani of the Action Democratic Party scored 89 votes.

Aliyu Abdullahi of the All Peoples Party polled 53 votes, while the Labour Party candidate, Abubakar Yahya-Mohammed, received 39 votes.

Declaring the result, Tajo-Suraj said Yusuf-Datti had satisfied the requirements of the law and secured the highest number of votes cast in the election.

“Therefore, Mr Hussain Yusuf-Datti of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” the returning officer said.

The by-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat in the Kano State House of Assembly following the movement of the former occupant, Shuaibu Rabiu Nagoggo, popularly known as Abba Gano, to the House of Representatives.

The election thus returns the APC to the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa State Constituency seat, with Yusuf-Datti set to represent the constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly.
