Aregbesola Begins Distribution Of 3 Million Insecticidal Nets In Osun

 

 Osun State governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has commenced  the distribution of three million Long Lasting Insecticidal Net Replacement, urging beneficiaries to utilize it.

Aregbesola who was represented by his Deputy Mrs. Grace Titi Laoye Tomori described the menace of malaria as devastating.

According to him, the havoc wrecked by malaria is enormous as it affects productivity, reduce live expectancy, reduce pupils attendance in schools among others, adding that Nigeria alone accounted for 25 percent of one million people infected with malaria in Africa sub-Sahara.

Aregbesola who used the occasion to appeal to members of the Osun State chapter of Nigeria Medical Association who has issued a 21-day ultimatum to government within which to meet their demand or face industrial crisis said government cannot afford to single out doctors from the agreement reached with workers in the state.

Also speaking, the Minister of Health, Professor Issac Adewole said his ministry will continue to work with stakeholders to ensure victory over malaria in order to contribute towards a malaria free Nigeria in line with President Buhari’s change mantra.

He stated that Nigeria has continued to witness appreciable progress in malaria control and elimination efforts adding that malaria cases are dropping in the country as recorded in 2015 Malaria Indicator survey where cases dropped to 27 percent from 42 percent in 2010 MIS.

Adewole who disclosed that government had adopted the use of LLIN replacement as one of the key strategies of the integrated package to prevent and eliminate malaria in the country said Osun State has not lagged behind and has continued to make giant strides in keeping up malaria elimination interventions.
