‘Unbelievable,’ Says Messi After Argentina’s Dramatic Loss To Morocco In Olympics Opener

Lionel Messi has broken his silence following Argentina’s unexpected loss to Morocco in a highly controversial match.

Despite being one of the tournament favorites with a squad featuring Julian Alvarez, Nicolas Otamendi, and Enzo Fernandez, Argentina found themselves 2-0 down in Saint-Etienne due to two goals by Soufiane Rahimi.

Giuliano Simeone managed to pull one back for Argentina in the 68th minute, and it seemed that Cristian Medina had leveled the score in the 106th minute.

The referee added an unprecedented 15 minutes of stoppage time, during which Medina scored what looked like the equalizer in the 16th minute of added time after a chaotic scramble.

However, the game was marred by further controversy when Morocco players began throwing firecrackers and bottles at the Argentine players, leading to the suspension of the match without a confirmed result.

Eventually, it was announced that the teams would play three more minutes without fans present.

Adding to the drama, Medina’s goal was disallowed for a marginal offside following a VAR review that took an astonishing 92 minutes to complete. Morocco ultimately held on to their lead and secured the victory.

Lionel Messi, who previously won Gold at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing with Argentina, appeared to have voiced his displeasure on Instagram.

He posted the word “Insolito,” meaning “Unbelievable,” along with a stunned emoji to convey his disbelief after the events that transpired.
