Biden, Harris Congratulate Trump, Discuss Transition Of Power

President Joe Biden called Donald Trump to congratulate him on his victory Wednesday and invited his Republican successor to hold a meeting in the “near future,” the White House stated, according to AFP.

During the call, “President Biden expressed his dedication to ensuring a seamless transition and highlighted the importance of fostering unity across the nation,” as noted in a White House statement.

Biden also reached out to Vice President Kamala Harris, commending her for a historic campaign. The statement further noted that the president is set to address the nation on Thursday, during which he will speak on the election results and transition plans.

Earlier, Vice President Harris had called Trump to officially concede and to discuss the process for a peaceful transfer of power. As the Democratic candidate, Harris acknowledged Trump’s victory and reinforced the importance of a smooth transition between administrations.

Trump’s victory was confirmed on Wednesday after he surpassed the pivotal 270 electoral college votes required. As reported by the BBC, Harris’s conversation with Trump stressed the importance of a peaceful transition and the duty of a president to represent all Americans.

Vice President Harris is expected to address the public in remarks scheduled for later today at Howard University.

Following his win, Trump, the Republican nominee, has secured his place as the 47th President of the United States.
