Cleric Lands In Prison For Allegedly Duping Man N11.7m For Marriage

A 55 year-old Pastor with the Assembly of God Church in Warri,Delta State, Reverend Moses Emonena, has been arraigned before an Igbosere Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly obtaining the sum of N11,750 million, from one Samuel Oladele Fatai, with the pretext to marry out his daughter to him,

Police alleged that after the complainant allegedly  paid the accused the money, the Reverend married out his daughter to another Man.

The Reverend was arrested by the operatives of the Federal Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, (FCIID), Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, following a complaint by Fatai and arraigned before the court on a two count charge of felony Wit obtaining money under false pretence.
FCIID lawyer, Supol Henry Obiazi told the Court in a charge marked B/22/2018, that the accused committed the offence between the Month of November, 2016 and March, 2017 at Egbeda area of Lagos.

Obiazi further informed the Court that the Complainant reported to the Police that he approached the accused to give out his daughter to him in marriage, adding that the accused gave him several conditions to fulfill before he could allow him to marry his daughter.

Obiazi said that the Complainant stated that he was shocked that after he fulfilled all the conditions running into N11,750 million given to him, the accused gave out his daughter to another Man.

Obiazi told the court that the offences are contrary to and punishable under sections 411 and 314(3) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Consequently, Chief Magistrate, Folashade Botoku granted him bail in the sum of N1 million with two surties in like sum who must be Civil Servants.

Chief Magistrate Botoku adjourned the matter till April 27, 2018 for mention, and ordered that the defendant  be kept in Prison custody, until he is able to fulfill the bail terms.
