Confusion In Osun, As Irate Youths Set Palace Ablaze Over Chieftaincy Tussle

There was confusion in Edunabon in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State on Wednesday when Irate youths of the community set ablaze the palace of Salu of Edunabon in protest for what they allegedly referred to as imposition of Prince Nasiru Adebayo over them as the new monarch of the sleepy town.

It would be recalled that the immediate past Salu of Edunabon, Oba Elijah Omoloye Oyelade, Agunbiade died on August 4, 2017.

It was gathered that there had been palpable tension in the town following the emergence of two princes from the same ruling house as candidates for the stool of Salu of Edunabon.

The two contenders, Prince Kehinde Oladepo and Prince Nasiru Adebayo had entered into seclusion following their choices by different factions of the kingmakers of the town which led to their going into seclusion in preparation for installation.

The bubble burst on Wednesday when some aggrieved youths attacked the procession of Prince Nasiru Adebayo who had completed his period of seclusion and headed for the palace for his installation.

In the fracas, it was gathered that no fewer than five people sustained various degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment in undisclosed hospitals in the area.

A community leader who identified himself as Chief Morakinyo Oyebayo told our reporter that, the Ooni of Ife who is the paramount ruler of the area had earlier faulted the selection process of one of the prince, Kehinde Oladepo in a letter dated November 22, 2018 against alleged wish of the people of the area.

When contacted for comment, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, said normalcy had been restored in the community and that people should go about their normal duties with out fear or any hindrance .
