Mother Of 4 Skuchis Brewer Convicted, Losses 3 Vehicles To FG
A single mother of four, Awoshika Joy, has been convicted by a Federal High Court, Lagos, for unlawful dealing in cannabis infused-juice popularly called Skuchis, and unlawful dealing cannabis Sativa also known as marijuana.
The convicted single mother of four, who formerly worked with the Zaria, kaduna State branch of First Bank Plc, was convicted by Justice Musa Kakaki, who presided over the court, after she pleaded guilty to the two counts charge made against her by the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The prosecutor, Barrister Buhari Abdullahi had told the court that the convict, who is also a graduate of Accounting from Obayemi Awolowo University (OAU), was arrested with the Skuchis and marijuana weighing 6,096 litres and 4.322 kilograms respectively.
The prosecutor told the court that the convict was arrested with the prohibited substance on September 10, 2025, at Caritas Event Centre Ibeshe, Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
He also told the court that the convict used three vehicles, which are: a white Volkswagen van with Chassis Number WV1ZZZ70Z1HO84067 and marked AKD 510 YJ; a white and green Toyota mini truck with Chassis Number YU600002559 and marked LSC 999 YK, and a yellow Ford van marked AKD 511 YJ, with Chassis Number IF TNE24W26HA41967.
The convict, admitted committing the crimes and pleaded guilty to the charges.
Upon her guilty plea, the prosecutor reviewed the facts of the charge and tendered all the exhibit recovered from her. While also urged the court to sentence her in accordance to Section 274(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015, coupled with her guilty plea and exhibits tendered.
He also urged the court to forfeit the three vehicles used as instrumentality of the crime to the federal government.
However, lawyer to the convict, Chief Lilian Omotunde, in her allucutor said: “she is a single mother of four children, a master holder of accounting from OAU, she worked with First Bank, Zaria branch, for five years.
“We urge the court to be magnanimous in passing sentence, as she has promised not to engage in crimes.
“She is also serious sick, and the prosecution have been taking care of her in their clinic. We therefore plea that the court grant her an option of fine in lieu of the sentence.”
Responding to the lawyer’s allucutor, the prosecutor, told the court that while he did not opposed to fine option due to the convict’s ill-health, he however urged the court to award a fine that will serve as deterrent to others who engage in drug dealing.
Justice Kakaki in his judgment, after listening to the counsel submissions, ordered the convicted mother of four to pay sum of N1 million.
The judge also ordered the forfeiture of the three vehicles, a white Volkswagen van with Chassis Number WV1ZZZ70Z1HO84067 and marked AKD 510 YJ; a white and green Toyota mini truck with Chassis Number YU600002559 and marked LSC 999 YK, and a yellow Ford van marked AKD 511 YJ, with Chassis Number IF TNE24W26HA41967, used in committing the crime to the federal government of Nigeria
