Court Remands Man Over Attempts To Export 780 Grams Of Hard Drug 

Justice Rilwan Aikawa of the Federal High Court, Lagos has ordered that a man arrested with hard drugs, James Chinweikpe Wisdom be remanded in prison custody till March 8, when his bail application would be heard and determined.

The defendant was charged before the court by the National Drug Laws Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) with a one count charge of attempting to unlawfully export 780 Grams of a banned substance known as Methamphetamine, a psychotropic substance, under International control.

Arraigning the defendant Thursday,  NDLEA’s lawyer, Mr Abu Ibrahim, told Justice Rilwan Aikawa that the prosecution has a one count charge against the defendant and urged that the charge be read to the defendant so that his plea could be taking.

After reading the charge and the accused plea of not guilty was taken, the prosecutor asked for a trial date and also made an application to the effect that the defendant be remanded in prison custody pending his trial.

Consequent upon the application, the trial judge, Justice Aikawa while remanding the defendant in prison custody pending hearing of his bail application, adjourned the matter till March 8 for hearing of the bail application and commencement of his trial.

NDLEA, in a count charge, alleged that the defendant had on or about October 21, 2018 at Gate ‘3′ of the Departure Hall of the Murtala Muhammed international Airport, Ikeja,Lagos, during the outward clearance of Passengers on Qatar Airways flights to Jakarta, Indonesia, via Doha, without lawful authority Exported 780 Grams of Methamphetamine, a psychotropic substance, under International control  thereby  committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 11( b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act, Cap N30, Laws of the federation, 2004.
