Court Jails Fake Lawyer For 30 Months
A 52-year old fake lawyer identified as Emmanuel has been sentenced to 30 months imprisonment without an option of fine for parading himself as a lawyer without qualification.
The prosecutor, Mr. Sunday Ogunremi told Oyo State Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ibadan that the fake lawyer identified as Emmanuel and others now at large between 2010 and 2017 at Mobolaji Law Chambers located at No.1, Winners Way, Basorun, Ibadan, conspired to impersonate as lawyers.
The prosecutor stated that the fake lawyer on March 27, 2017 announced himself as a legal counsel and held brief in a case with charge no: MI/1543c/2016 but was later found out to be an impersonator.
Ogunyemi told the court that the offences committed by the fake lawyer contravened section 516 and 484 Code Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria 2000.
The fake lawyer pleaded guilty to the two-count charge brought against him.
It was gathered that Emmanuel was arrested by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) when he appeared as a legal counsel in the court.
