Disquiet In Lagos As Militants Kill 5 Police, Army Captain
At least five policemen and two soldiers, including an army captain were in the early hours Sunday killed by gunmen suspected to be militants in Ikorodu area of Lagos.
It was learnt that the militants overwhelmed the Joint Task Force called Operation Awatse to carry out their dastardly act in the terrain they were driven away from about a year ago by members of the same task force.
The bubble was said to have burst when the militants unleashed mayhem at Woodland Estate close to Ishawo Creeks and engaged the security personnel, soldiers and the police, in a gun duel.
It was gathered that five policemen and two soldiers were gunned down by the militants at the end of the gun duel.
As of the time of filling this report security forces were said to have reinforced and stormed the area for possible counter-action and reclamation of the zone.
It would be recalled that the militants resorted to kidnapping and oil theft before they were chased out of the area in Aug. 2016 by the Task Force, after several bloody clashes in the community.
As they held sway lots of people were killed during the clashes between militants and residents of Isawo community before the joint military task force was deployed in the area.
Confirming the attack, the Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Olarinde Famous-Cole, said a statement would soon be issued.
