Don Tasks Scholars On Quality Research Works
President, Nigerian Academy of Letters, Prof. Sola Akinrinade has charged career researchers to be committed to quality research works that would make positive impact on the society on informed policymaking, economic and industrial growth, and improved standards of living;
He also task the scholars on the need for mentorship and maintenance of integrity, by avoiding falsification of research work through manufactured data, false claims and other vices that are detrimental to expected outcome of research products that are meant for public consumption.
Akinrinade, the pioneer vice chancellor of Osun State University gave the admonition in Osogbo yesterday in his keynote address at a 2-day proposal writing and grantsmanship workshop for early career researchers ECRs across the country and sponsored by UNIOSUN in conjunction with university of Birmingham, Nigerian Academy of Letters and TETFUND.
Speaking with journalist at the event, Akinrinade laid emphasis on composition of governing councils of institution saying people that can make impact should constitute members of tertiary institution governing councils.
Declaring the workshop opened, UNIOSUN VC, Prof Clement Adebooye decried downward trend of research productivity and impact among universities in Africa compared to other continents of the world saying that universities in Africa seem to be too much engulfed with graduate output but with decreasing focus and emphasis on research.
Adebooye who was represented by deputy VC academics, Prof. Lawrence Kehinde stressed that research is the engine that drives progress both at national and global scales adding that investment in research comes with a lot of benefits and advantages.
He charged participants to make the best use of the opportunity provided by the workshop that drew participants from universities across the country.
