Easter: NSCDC Deploys 57,000 Personnel Nationwide
The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Audi, has approved the deployment of over 57,000 officers and men to ensure a secure and peaceful Easter celebration across the federation.
The Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, ACC Afolabi Babawale, confirmed in a statement that the massive deployment, which draws from specialised tactical units and intelligence operatives, is a strategic move to fortify national security and protect citizens during the festive period.
Covering all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory FCT, the operation is designed as a proactive measure against potential security threats.
Babawale said apart from general public safety, a primary focus of the mobilisation is the absolute protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.
“To ensure effectiveness, the Commandant General has issued explicit instructions to all Zonal Commanders, State Commandants, and Provosts of Colleges to maintain comprehensive oversight within their respective jurisdictions.
“Security efforts will be particularly concentrated on high-traffic locations. Churches, shopping complexes, public parks, and recreational centres are set to be under strict surveillance. The Corps plans to utilise a combination of visible patrols and undercover agents to preemptively identify and neutralise criminal elements before they can act,” he said.
Prof. Audi emphasised that the success of the nationwide operation relies heavily on seamless coordination with other security agencies and the rapid processing of public reports.
He stressed that the Corps is committed to a unified front to maintain law and order throughout the celebrations.
“Our goal is a seamless and secure Easter season. We are working hand-in-hand with sister agencies to maintain order. I also urge parents and guardians to guide their children properly, ensuring they are not manipulated into engaging in activities that could disrupt public peace”, said Audi.
To further strengthen the security net, several of the Corps’ elite divisions have been placed on maximum alert. These include the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad, the Mining Marshals, the Special Female Squad, and the Crack Squad. These specialised teams are prepared to act decisively against any groups or individuals attempting to undermine national stability, the statement added.
