The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Dr Kayode Fayemi on Sunday appointed the ailing former member of the House of Representatives recently shot during a reception held for him, Hon Opeyemi Bamidele as the Director General of his campaign team

He stated this when the Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) inaugurated State Campaign Council for the July 14 governorship election in the state.

The council, according to the State chairman of the party, Chief Jide Awe and Fayemi is to coordinate and oversee the campaign activities of the party ahead of the poll.

Addressing newsmen after the inauguration of the committee, Sunday in Ado Ekiti, Fayemi said the state council will complement the efforts of Governor Atiku Bagudu-led national campaign council.

He disclosed that the party will continue its governorship campaign Monday, while a mega flag off of the electioneering campaign is slated for June 19 and rounded off on July 10,2018.

“The campaign will last for about two to three week across the state. The state campaign council is different Governor Atiku Bagudu -led 77-man national campaign committee.

” Ours is to liaise with party members, professionals, activists, artisans, Market women and other interest groups and various stakeholders who we respect their opinions in the campaign and the election proper.

“The campaign will kick start at Isinbode in Ekiti East local government area of the state and move to other 130 communities across the state”.

Fayemi while speaking on the incident that occurred at the party state Secretariat last week said, “Those hit by bullets are recuperating fast. Hon Bamidele is still in Nigeria. I still saw him earlier today. His postoperative treatment is taking place here in Nigeria.

“Before the incident, he had accepted to be the Director General of our campaign team. His deputy will continue with the job till he return”, he said.

He said his party is united and committed to peaceful election.

“We hope that this is not a pointer to what is coming in the future. We have briefed security agencies on alleged plot to wreak violence in the state. We hope they will up their games to nip such in the bud.

“We remain intact and united in our party. And we are focused and working together to attain victory in the election.”

The chairman, Awe, said the campaign was decentralized to give more leverage for those at the units, wards and local governments to be able to work to the grassroots where the bulk of the voters are domiciled.
