EKSG Appeals For Calm At College Of Health Science And Technology
The Ekiti State Government has appealed for calm over the reported
case of inhalation of poisonous substance by students of the College
of Health Sciences and Technology, Ijero Ekiti sequel to the
fumigation of the school premises.

The State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji
Filani who confirmed the incident, however assured that the situation
had been brought under control.
Addressing newsmen in Ado Ekiti after visiting the college for an
on-the-spot assessment of the situation, the Commissioner said that 65
out of the students hospitalized have been discharged while 36 were
still at the State Specialist Hospital in Ijero Ekiti and two referred
to the Federal Teaching Hospital Ido-Ekiti, adding that one of the
students was taken to ABUAD Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti for further
treatment and observation.
Dr Filani assured that more doctors and other medical personnel have
been deployed as well as logistics mobilized in addition to the
existing team to facilitate faster and better treatment of the
affected students.
He said “we regret this situation and we are closely monitoring the
hospitalized students to ensure they fully recover”.
“We hereby appeal to the students of the college to remain calm and
not destroy health equipment and facilities as this could have
negative counter effect on the situation”.
Reiterating the commitment of Governor Kayode Fayemi to the welfare of
people in the State, Filani said that the State Government would leave
no stone unturned towards ascertaining both the immediate and the
remote causes of the unfortunate incident to forestall future
occurrences.
He said that the officials of the Federal Fire Service that were
reported to have carried out the fumigation exercise have been handed
over to the Police for questioning and further investigation.
Filani assured that “we are also in close communication with the
school and other concerned bodies to ensure that we investigate the
incident to prevent future occurrence”.
