EKSG Highlights Critical Importance Of Collaboration For Improved Quality Of Healthcare

 

The Ekiti State Government has reiterated the importance of teamwork and collaboration among health workers, as a panacea towards improving the quality of health care, restoring the health of patients and ensuring public health.

The Commissioner for Health and Human Services Dr Oyebanji Filani made this call at the 2020 annual scientific conference of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, Ekiti State branch held in Ado Ekiti.

The commissioner who described the theme for the conference “medical laboratory scientists as strategic stakeholders in preventive personalized medicine” as apt and timely said the COVID-19 pandemic has served as a wake – up call for society to pay greater attention to the country’s health infrastructure and architectures, including laboratory systems. He further recognised the role and efforts of medical laboratory scientists in Nigeria’s fights against COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.

Dr Oyebanji further commended the leadership of the association in Ekiti state and reiterated the government of Ekiti’s support to its work, as well as the zero-tolerance for poor quality of health care.

“We have developed a health strategy plan where quality of care is a critical output for all aspects of our health system. I urge you as professionals to always maintain the highest quality of care and professionalism, in the work that you do”. He said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the state chairman of the association MLS Peter Aladejare appreciated the State Governor Dr.Kayode Fayemi for prioritising the welfare of the health workers in Ekiti state.
MLS Aladejare urged the members of the association to always work towards promoting professionalism and professional harmony, eliminating inter and intra professional rivalry and bickering as well as always ensuring that they make the patient the king, focus and center of attraction of the Nigerian health system.

There were goodwill messages from the Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly Rt Hon Funminiyi Afuye, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Health, Dr Jimlas Ogunsakin, Chief Medical Director of EKSUTH, Professor Kayode Olabanji and other dignitaries at the event.
