Flood Wreaks Havoc In Adamawa, Disrupts Flight Operations In Lagos
Barely two months after a devastating flood hit Adamawa State, with over 30 dead recorded, another flood has wreaked havoc again in the state, with dozens of households rendered homeless.
Some areas in the state capital, worship centres, residential, and business premises were covered with water.
In Damilu, located along the airport road, residents were battling to save their family members, as their properties were destroyed by the over 6 hours of downpour
In Jambutu, Bachure, Runde, and Shinko, all in the Yola-North local government area, thousands of family members were squatting along the roadside.
The executive secretary of Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency, ADSEMA, Dr Celine Laori, said that the flood is devastating, with thousands of families rendered homeless.
“So far, there is no life lost recorded. My office, the police, fire service and other security agencies are all carrying out rescue operations now in those affected areas,” she said.
In a statement issued by the Adamawa police command, spokesman SP Suleiman Nguroje said that the command has deployed marine police for a rescue operation in the affected areas.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has personally visited some flood-affected areas of Limiwa, Rumde, Shinko, Jambutu, and others to assess the situation for necessary assistance.
“Members of the public in the affected areas are advised to remain calm, avoid flooded zones, and ensure the safety of their families and property.”
The Command assured the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property during and after the flood.
Meanwhile, many flights out of Lagos were delayed due to the early morning rain in most parts of Lagos Tuesday.
Air Peace had to announce delays on some of its flights across the country following heavy rainfall in Lagos on Tuesday morning.
The airline disclosed this in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Osifo-Whiskey Efe, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the adverse weather conditions affected schedules but passenger safety remained paramount.
“We wish to inform you that due to the heavy downpour of rain in Lagos this morning, some flights across our operating networks will be delayed,” it said.
The airline explained that while the weather was beyond its control, it was working to minimise the disruptions.
“While weather is beyond our control and safety remains our utmost priority, we appeal for your understanding as we manage the disruptions as best as we can and get you to your destinations safely,” Air Peace said.
Passengers seeking updated flight schedules were advised to reach the airline via email or phone.
The airline further stressed its safety record, noting that “safety is not just a priority but a core commitment. We remain dedicated to upholding the highest safety standards for our passengers and crew.”
Several other airlines were also affected.
