Restructure Nigeria Security Architecture, Gani Adams Urges Tinubu

Worried by insecurity situation in the country, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams has called for the restructuring of Nigeria security architecture to stem the trend.

Speaking at the weekend in Osogbo during a leadership retreat programme organised by the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Adams emphasised the need for the Federal Government to allow state and local governments to organise their own security architecture and protect lives and properties.

Adams, who doubles as the National Coordinator, Oodua Peoples Congress advised governments at all levels to take advantage of the already established structure of OPC which has a vast presence in many communities in the country, to provide security for the populace.

Earlier in his welcome address, the state OPC coordinator, Comrade Yemi Aboderin, explained that the retreat was targeted at educating members of the group on their role in enhancing the security of the state and the Yoruba land at large.

Also speaking at the gathering organised by Olokun Festival Foundation as part of activities marking the Osun Osogbo festival, Adams spelled out the roles of tradition in sustaining the cultural identity of people.

He charged traditional rulers in Yorubaland to keep playing their roles as custodians of Yoruba culture and tradition in their respective towns and communities.

His words: “As custodians of Yoruba culture and tradition, it is the responsibility of the traditional rulers to sustain the cultural identity of Yoruba race. Our kings should be more traditional than political.

He used the medium to call on Ekiti and Ondo state governments to emulate other states in the Southwest by declaring August 20 as public holiday to celebrate Isese day.
