Grandma Sikira Adunni Aladire Passes On At 90
With heavy hearts, we announce that Grandma Sikira Adunni Aladire, aged 90, answered the last call from her Creator in the early hours of Monday, 2nd March 2026, at her Ile Toki home, No. N1/506 Balogun Ibikunle Street, Ayeye, Ibadan. She was laid to rest the same day in accordance with Muslim rites.
As a youth, Grandma Sikira trained in the art of tie and dye and became highly skilled in designing traditional and cultural patterns of ADIRE. Her talent and creativity in producing intricate designs on local fabrics for both special occasions and casual wear earned her the nickname SIKIRA ALADIRE.
Her journey in the craft dates back pre-independent Nigeria ( mid 1950s) an era when foreigners, colonial masters, and mistresses frequently visited Ile Toki to admire and purchase her beautiful works of art.
Ile Toki was famous for renowned tie-and-dye products, which were crafted with exceptional skill and creativity.
Some of the products were exported internationally, showcasing the artistry and cultural heritage of the community.
Grandma Sikira Adunni Aladire, was a devout Muslim, deeply rooted in her faith and Yoruba traditions.
She was married and is survived by a large family, including children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers, nephews, nieces, and cousins. Her children included –
Late Sarah Alimi, Abibat Alimi,
Suleiman Azeez and Latifat Balogun.
Grandma Sikira was also celebrated for her love of traditional Apala and Dundun music, where her dancing brought joy and entertainment to her neighborhood and beyond. She was a caring and loving mother who left a legacy of kindness and community spirit.
We pray that Allah forgives her shortcomings, rewards her with Al Jannah Firdaus and console her family, friends, associates, and all those she left behind.

The 7-day fidau prayer for the deceased will take place at 12 noon on Sunday, 8 March 2026, at Ile Toki, House No. N1/506 Balogun Ibikunle Street, Ayeye, Ibadan.
Her legacy as a master of her craft and a cultural icon will forever live on in the hearts of those she inspired.
