High Level Of Poverty In Nigeria Caused By Low Productivity- Aregbesola
Aregbesola made the remarks in Osogbo while delivering his address at the National Productivity Day and merit awards programme.
To overcome this bane, Aregbesola said Nigerians must engage in productive activities which would move the nation forward economically.
Aregbesola whose topic dwelt on, “Productivity for prosperity” said, ” The inescapable truth is that our productivity is very low and that is why poverty is prevalent in our land. Even in agriculture which is the main occupation in Africa, productivity has been very low”.
Aregbesola also urged civil servants to work harder to achieve the expected results in the civil service.
He commended the awardees for their selfless and meticulous services to the state.
Some of the awardees at the programme includes, a former governor of the state Chief Adebisi Akande, State Deputy Governor, Mrs Titi Laoye-Tomori, Speaker of State House of Assembly, Mr Najeem Salaam, among others.
Earlier In his welcome address, Osun Head of Service, Dr Festus Oyebade Adegboyega, said all the awardees were selected based on their outstanding performance, which cut across all sectors of the economy in the state.
The guest lecturer at the event Dr Adedokun Sikiru commended the state government’s efforts in reforming the tax system.
Adedotun , a lecturer at the Department of Economics, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) spoke on the topic ‘ Tax Culture and Development’ .
