Kebbi Raises 1 Million Seedlings To Fight Desertification
The Kebbi State Government through the Ministry of Environment and Solid Minerals Resources has embarked on the nursing of 1 million seedlings to fight desert encroachment .
The Commissioner of Environment and Solid Mineral Resources , Alhaji Muhammad Gado Marafa made this known to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi .
He said that in view of the environmental challenges the state is facing such as desertification, flooding and erosion , the state governor gave the ministry the approval to embark on the programme.
” The ministry has embarked on nursing of one million seedlings to be distributed and planted in public places such as schools , offices and even private places ”
He also announced that the ministry has since started fumigation exercise to reduce the menace of malaria in all the 21 local government areas including the state capital , Birnin Kebbi as well as house hold inspection to ensure people clean their environment.
On solid minerals , he opined that the state government has taken inventory of all mining sites and closely monitoring activities of the miners.
