Man Dies Rehabilitating 170-foot Well In Lagos

One person was recovered dead from a well, while two others sustained injuries in two separate incidents in Lagos.

While one of the incidents occurred at 21, New Era Street, Iyana-Ipaja, Alimosho Local Government Area, the other occurred at 10b, Olusola Taiwo Street, Ketu in Kosofe Local Government Area, at about 10a.m. and 12.30p.m., respectively on Monday.

It was gathered that a male was trapped in a well in the Iyana-Ipaja case, while rehabilitating a 170-foot well.

Unfortunately, he was later recovered dead by officials of the Lagos State Fire Service.

A health expert at the scene told newsmen that the deceased inhaled ammonia gas while in the well, saying this was responsible for his death minutes later.

It was learnt that a resident, who noticed the tragedy, was said to have raised the alarm that attracted other neighbours.

Eyewitnesses said that efforts by the neighbours to rescue the deceased proved abortive; prompting the invitation of fire fighters.

Meanwhile, the Ketu incident occurred when fire gutted a security post, where two guards were cooking.

One of them dropped a container of fuel near the cooking point, which resulted in an explosion.

They sustained injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The incidents were confirmed by the Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, who said his men from Agege and Alausa handled the operations.
