Monarch Celebrates Children Day In Grand Style In Osun
A frontline monarch in Osun state, Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba AbduRasheed Adewale Akanbi, on Monday hosted no fewer than 9,000 pupils to commemorate this year’s childrens’ day celebrations.
Students in public and private schools drawn from Ayedire, Olaoluwa, and Iwo local government areas converged on Bowen University’s playing ground in Iwo to celebrate the event in grand style.
Apart from the conventional Match Past of students that usually feature during children day celebrations, students were equally treated to traditional dance, academic competition, among others while gift items were distributed to the pupils.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the event, Oba Akanbi said the celebration was occasioned by the marginalisation of children in the country and his love to build people.
Speaking on the theme: Celebrating the Future Generation”, Oba Akanbi disclosed that this year is the fourth edition of the childrens’ day celebration he would host since ascended the throne.
He explained that his aim was to build the children for the future, saying “I’ve been giving them what the state government can not give them.
“I’m doing it for others to emulate. They are the future of our nation. We should build them. I’m building them to make a nation for the good future.
“I’m speaking through this action. It is a message to all monarchs. Other monarchs can replicate. Most of the students have been marginalised.
The Chairman of the planning committee, Evang. Olatunbosun Alao, disclosed that the students were drawn from 300 schools in Iwo, Olaoluwa and Ayedire local governments.
According to Alao, the students from both public and private schools are 9,120 and the best in the quiz competition held last week was from the remotest area.
He commended the school principals who drew the children to the venue without support of the committee.
