Monarch Calls For Constitutional Roles For Traditional Rulers
A paramount ruler in Osun State, the Olubosin of Ifetedo, Oba Akinola Akinrera has reinstated the need for roles for traditional rulers in the constitution of Nigeria.
The monarch who spoke in a chat with newsmen during the celebration of Olojo festival in the town at the weekend insisted that traditional rulers are closer to the people more than any level of government.
According to him, though insecurity is a major problem the nation and every community is confronting, giving roles to traditional rulers will curb it.
According to him, traditional rulers can be of tremendous help if the institution is empowered adding that they have what it takes to deal with it.
His words: “Curbing insecurity in any human society, there is a need for intelligence gathering, the layman language for intelligence is information. for you to get information some people have to work for it, as a traditional ruler you are not the one that will work for information but the people in your domain.
“Traditional rulers lived with their people, know the boundaries of the community and other vital information get to us. Giving us a constitutional role will curb insecurity”.
The monarch lauded the commitment of governor Adegboyega Oyetola for his infrastructural development of the state but appealed to him to expedite action on rehabilitating of the road in his community.
