My Endorsement Does Not Foreclose Party Primaries- Olusola
Following the controversies generated by the endorsement of Governor Ayo Fayose’s Deputy by stakeholders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the forthcoming governorship election, the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Professor Kolapo Olusola has said his endorsement in the state has not foreclosed the party primary election.
Olusola who predicted that his boss, Governor Ayodele Fayose would become Nigeria’s president, a development he said would make him give Ekiti the best of governance when fulfilled, said the party’s candidate will emerge through primaries.
He called for the support of the people for him to continue Fayose’s developmental strides across the state.
The deputy governor who spoke in his Ikere Ekiti country home on Friday, during a special prayer session held to aid his gubernatorial ambition, boasted that his choice as preferred candidate for 2018 governorship polls, and backed by Fayose, is a signal of the continuation of good governance championed by Fayose in the state.
Olusola, while addressing his kinsmen who came in their numbers to attend the prayer sessions said, “My emergence does not foreclose other aspirants from contesting. We still have the party primaries ahead. We have a constitution that is to be followed. However, I am very sure of emerging the party’s overall candidate at the primaries because I have the support of all the leaders and members.
“The truth is that when two or three people are contesting for a post, it will definitely get to only one person and others may not be happy initially. But as time goes on, everything will be settled. I want to encourage other aspirants that they have the opportunity to contest and there is no bad blood.
“What we have done is not unconstitutional because we have not said this is the final candidate, it is just an adoption by a wide range of stakeholders who would actively take part in the primaries. That simply means I have a large base of support.”
The newly inaugurated Chairman of the state’s Council of traditional rulers, Oba Oluwole Ademolaju who is also the Oloye of Oye-Ekiti, the Attah of Ayede-Ekiti, Oba Abdulmumini Orisagbemi, party leaders, interest groups and top government functionaries were among the dignitaries at the event.
Olusola later proceeded to the palace of his town’s monarch, the Ogoga of Ikere-Ekiti, Oba Adejimi Adu Alagbado where he received royal and welcome traditional leaders of the town.
