NAFDAC’s Lab Gets WHO Prequalification Status
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Thursday announced that its Central Drug Control Laboratory (CDCL) in Lagos has attained prequalification status from the World Health Organization (WHO).
“This recognition, officially communicated by the WHO Prequalification Inspection team in September 2023 and published on the WHO website last week, places CDCL among an elite global group known for excellence in drug analysis,” NAFDAC said.
“The achievement is a result of a decade-long journey that gained momentum in the last four years with renewed efforts and commitment from NAFDAC’s management and the Federal Government.
“CDCL’s WHO Prequalification brings global recognition, enhanced pharmaceutical quality, international collaboration opportunities, streamlined regulatory processes, and strengthened credibility to NAFDAC and Nigeria’s healthcare system.”
The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, expressed gratitude to stakeholders including the Honourable Minister of Health, NAFDAC management, CDCL staff, and partners such as WHO Nigeria Country Office, USP PQM+ Nigeria Country Office, and Global Fund for their hard work and unwavering commitment.
“This achievement underscores NAFDAC’s dedication to public health, and the Agency eagerly anticipates leveraging this recognition to strengthen partnerships, enhance healthcare access, and contribute to overall public health improvement in Nigeria and the West African region.
“For NAFDAC as a regulator, it further enhances our pedigree as we work towards Maturity Level 4, to become a World listed Authority.
“This achievement would not have been possible without the hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment of the Honourable Minister of Health, NAFDAC management, CDCL staff, NAFDAC management, our esteemed partners such as WHO Nigeria Country Office, USP PQM+ Nigeria Country office and Global Fund.”
