NDE Tackles Unemployment Through Job Creation In Osun
In its quest to thin down the unemployment rate to the barest minimum all over the federation and Osun in particular, the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has flagged off graduate attachment programmes (GAP) and artisans in collaborative employment scheme (ACCESS) in the state.
Speaking at the flag off in Osogbo recently, the Director General, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo who observed that unemployment that stood as a menace to the economy of the federation should not be seen as a threat, but should rather be seen as a ladder to greatness if adequately addressed.
Fikpo who was represented, by Osun State NDE, Coordinator MR. Fakunle Julius said, to this end, the directorate had strategically designed new set of vocation skills training programmes with laid down emphasis on modern specialized technical trend through skill acquisition as a possible solution.
This according to him is being targeted at youths, pensioners, the vulnerables, through innovative self employment and self reliance programmes, among which include Furniture making, Paints Production, Aluminum, Construction and Fabrication among others which are notable choice of career opportunities anchored by the Special Public Work department of NDE Osun State.
He disclosed that the beneficiaries of these programmes was recorded within the threshold of 1,110 capacity for GAP and 1850 for ACCESS nationwide adding that 30 participants for GAP and 50 participants for ACCESS were approved for each state, Osun inclusive.
He maintained that the objective of the schemes is to give the unemployed, skills to be self reliant, and work as a productive citizens in a global society and to meet up with the recent development trend, through changing of social values.
The DG while expressing his appreciation to the federal Government for her support for NDE, gave assurance that his tenure in office will ensure that the management and administrative goals will be realized within the speed of time in accordance with the mandate delivered into the hand of the directorate.
