NNPC Contains Breach On Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System

 

The NNPC Limited has provided an update on the explosion incident reported on Thursday, 11 December 2025, involving a section of the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS) in South-West Warri, Delta State.

According to the company, coordinated containment measures were promptly deployed at the site, successfully securing the affected area and ensuring the safety of host communities, personnel, and the surrounding environment. All relevant sections of the pipeline have since been safely and securely isolated.

A joint preliminary inspection has been carried out at the affected location by technical teams from NNPC Limited, the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and designated maintenance contractors.

NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC), the operator of the ELPS network, has also activated its Business Continuity Plan to manage the operational impact of the incident on stakeholders, including gas shippers and suppliers.

The company stated that it continues to engage openly with host communities, state authorities, and other critical stakeholders, acknowledging their cooperation and support. NNPC Limited reiterated its commitment to the safety of its host communities, environmental protection, and the reliability of its operations across all assets.
