NSCDC Act: Ogun Assembly Assures On Recognition In Ongoing Constitution Amendment
The Ogun State House of Assembly has assured the State Sector Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) of its support in the on-going 1999 Constitution amendment as it affects the NSCDC 2003 Act towards reflecting on the establishment and core functions of the corps for more efficiency.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon Suraju Ishola Adekunbi gave the assurance, while receiving the leadership of the State Command led by its Commandant, Ayodele Philips on a courtesy visit to the State House of Assembly at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Adekunbi, who explained that the State Houses of Assembly now await the transmission of the amendment in their respective States from the National Assembly, emphasized the importance of the various security formations in the maintenance of laws and order in all parts of the State.
The Speaker while promising the command of a smooth working relationship with a view to promoting peace and tranquility to enhance development through encouragement of more foreign and local investments, commended the Corps for complementing sister security agencies in the State at ensuring a more effective grassroot and community policing.
Speaking earlier, the Commandant, in company of other officers of the command, lauded the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led-administration for its urban renewal drives, which according to him had given the gateway State a befitting facelift in the comity of States.
He also commended the leadership of the State Assembly for maintaining peace and tranquility which had helped in promoting mutual interdependence among all arms of government in the State resulting in positioning the State as an industrial hub of the nation.
Philip, who sought for the support of the Assembly in the on-going constitution amendment towards strengthening the corps for more effective service delivery, reiterated the corps’ commitment to adequate protection of critical infrastructure as well as responsive disaster management across the State and the country.
