NSCDC Opens New Outpost To Strengthen FCT Security

The Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Friday commissioned a new divisional outpost at Leisure Court Estate in Lugbe, aimed at enhancing security presence and improving emergency response across the FCT.

The new outpost, donated by Real Estate Developer, Leisure Court Ltd, marked the third such facility launched under the leadership of FCT Commandant Dr. Olusola Odumosu.

Coming on the heels of earlier commissions in Bwari and Kwali, the Lugbe outpost represents a step in decentralising security operations and extending the corps’ reach into fast-growing suburban communities.

“The commissioning of this outpost is not just about celebrating the erection of a building; it symbolises our resolve to create a safer environment for every citizen in the FCT, regardless of location.

“With urbanisation and the rapid growth of population, the challenges of security have become more complex. We are faced with new threats that require innovative and proactive solutions.

“This outpost is strategically positioned to respond swiftly to security challenges and to engage with the community effectively.

“It will serve as a base for our officers to monitor activities in the area, support neighbourhood watch programs, and foster a spirit of cooperation between the NSCDC and the communities we serve,” Odumosu declared during the commissioning ceremony.

With Abuja’s population expanding rapidly and security challenges evolving, the NSCDC said it is pivoting toward a proactive, community-driven model of policing.

The Lugbe outpost will serve as a local nerve centre for surveillance, neighbourhood watch coordination, and early crime detection in the area.

Odumosu emphasised that the corps is determined to stay ahead of threats by embedding security infrastructure directly within vulnerable communities.

“In our journey towards enhancing security, we recognise that community engagement is paramount. Together, we can create a formidable partnership that allows us to detect and prevent crimes before they occur.

“Through various awareness programs, and regular dialogue with communities, and stakeholders, we aim to strengthen the bond between the NSCDC and the citizens we are sworn to protect.

“I would also like to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of all my personnel involved in the day-to-day security provision in the FCT. Your commitment to duty and service to humanity is commendable. I urge all officers and men who will be stationed here to embody the core values of integrity, professionalism, and dedication.

“Our success is measured not only by our ability to respond to incidents but also by our proactive measures to educate and empower citizens about their roles in maintaining security,” he said.

As the corps continues to scale up its infrastructure across Abuja, Odumosu called on residents, stakeholders, and sister agencies to strengthen collaboration with the NSCDC.

“As we embark on this new chapter, I call upon every stakeholder and community member to join us in our mission towards achieving a safe FCT.

“Let us work hand-in-hand to build a secure environment where every citizen can thrive without fear. Together, we can create a resilient community that withstands the test of time.

“In concluding, let me reiterate our commitment to serving the nation and upholding the ideals of the NSCDC. As we officially open this security outpost, I promise that it will stand as a beacon of security, hope, safety, and community collaboration,” he added.
