EPL: West Ham Appoint Nuno Espirito Santo New Manager
West Ham United have named Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager, hours after parting ways with Graham Potter.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Saturday in a post that the Portuguese coach has signed his contract with the Hammers and will take charge with immediate effect. His first training session with the squad is scheduled for later today.
“Nuno Espirito Santo, new West Ham manager with immediate effect as contract has been approved. Portuguese manager replaces Graham Potter with the first training session later today. Nuno says yes to #WHUFC project,” Romano wrote in an X post, signalling the beginning of a new era at the London Stadium.
The appointment comes after Potter was dismissed following a string of disappointing results that stretched from the second half of last season into the early weeks of the 2025/26 campaign.
The West Ham board said performances had “not matched expectations” and stressed the need for a change to improve the team’s Premier League position “as soon as possible.”
Potter’s backroom staff, including assistant coach Bruno Saltor and first-team coaches Billy Reid and Narcis Pelach, also departed with him, leaving the Hammers in search of a complete reset.
Nuno is best known for his successful spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he guided the club from the Championship to the Europa League knockout stages.
He later had a brief tenure at Tottenham Hotspur before moving to Saudi Arabia, managing Al-Ittihad and leading them to the 2022/23 Saudi Pro League title before leaving the club the following year.
The club has yet to release an official statement beyond confirming Potter’s departure.
