OAU Senate Orders Probe Of Student’s Death
The Senate of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife has directed the management of the institution to set up an independent committee to investigate the death of a final year student of the institution, Miss Omowumi Aishat Adesina.
Recall that the students of the University embarked on protest on Friday 1st, October, 2021 alleging negligence by workers of the institution’s Health Center that led to the untimely death of the final year students after an illness.
The Senate in a release made available to newsmen in Ile-Ife by the Registrar of the institution Mrs M. I. Omosule on Wednesday stated that the proposed committee should submit its report within two weeks.
The release stated that the Senate threw its weight behind the prompt closure of the institution and suspension of swearing-in of the newly elected students’ Union officers of the institution to avert possible loss of lives.
According to Omosule, Senate unequivocally condemned the students’ protest and the subsequent blockage of Ibadan/Ife express road and Ede/Ife road.
The Senate however expressed sadness over the untimely death of Omowumi Aishat Adesina and commiserated with her family.
The 400Level student of Foreign languages died in Seventh Day Adventist Hospital after being referred to the hospital by the University Health Center.
