Lawmakers Sack Lagos Speaker Obasa

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, over multiple fraudulent allegations.

Obasa was subsequently replaced by his deputy Lasbat Meranda, representative of Apapa I, as the new speaker.

Meranda, who took her oath of office immediately, would serve as the first female speaker of the Lagos legislature.

52-year-old Obasa has been speaker of the Lagos state house of assembly since 2015.
