Senate Rejects Onochie As INEC commissioner

Nigerian Senate Tuesday rejected the nomination of Lauretta Onochie as a national commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Chairman of the Committee, Kabiru Gaya, in his report, said Onochie did not satisfy the provisions of the Federal Character principle.

Onochie, Special Assistant to the President on new media was nominated by President Muhamadu Buhari despite the fact that she is a member of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.

During her senate confirmation, she however, said that she left the APC in 2019 after the elections.
