International Youth Day: Ooni Task Nigerian Youths To Be Pro-active
As the world all-over celebrates youths on the occasion of International Youth Day, the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has charged Nigerian youths to be more pro-active and take their rightful place in the scheme of things in the country.
Oba Ogunwusi who spoke at the 3rd Ife Youth Economic Summit and hand-over of Ife Digital Job Centre by the Federal Government held at Oba Okunade Sijuwade Memorial Hall, Enuwa, Ile-Ife noted that with the signing into law the ‘Not too Young to Rule’ Oba Ogunwusi described the contribution of youths into any given society as indispensable.
The monarch who argued that, youths are the engine room of any society however noted they should be ready to make themselves relevant and impact positively on the society in general.
The monarch who argued that, youths are the engine room of any society,nation and organization while speaking at the 3rd Ife Youth Economic Summit and hand-over of Ife Digital Job Centre by the Federal Government held in Oba Okunade Sijuwade Memorial Hall, Enuwa, Ile-Ife, Osun State,charged them to be more focused to make their environment s more virile.
His words: “I charge the Nigerian youths to be focused in the new trends of technology, they should be involved in leadership in an era of global vocational and technological revolution and must tap the advantage therein.”
Speaking at the summit with the theme; “Youths Unemployment and the Challenges of Enabling Empowerment-the way forward for Nigeria”, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Mrs Ibukun Odusote enjoined the participants to use the golden opportunity that the training would offer them to become entrepreneurs.
She disclosed that the Federal Government is favourably disposed to ready to innovations and technology adding that government is giving priority encouragement to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
She however assured the Nigerian youths that the Federal Government is ever prepared to give them social protection and ameliorate their sufferings by creating more jobs.
In his goodwill address, the Director General/CEO, NITDA, Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami established the nexus between ICT and employment, saying, the success story of the economy of the Asian Tigers could be traced to revolutionary development in ICT.
He added that acquisition of ICT skills has become a global requirement in employer-employee relations while the growth and stability of the Nigerian economy is dependent on the employment of the youths.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Special Assistant to Ooni Ogunwusi on Youth Development and Wealth Creation, Olamide Awosunle disclosed that this year’s” six weeks ICT training will afford 100 youths in Osun State to acquire ICT and business skills that will make them globally competitive as well as give them opportunity to create new wealth.
