Osun Communal Crisis: 3,000 Farmers Displaced
No fewer than 3000 farmers were sacked from their farms following the communal unrest that rocked, Iloba and Oloosape communities in Egbedore local government area of Osun State.
The Olua of Oloosape, Oba Hassan Adeyemo who disclosed this at a press conference in Osogbo on Monday appealed to well meaning nigerians, traditional rulers, Osun State government to wade into the crisis allegedly orchestrated by the Elegbedi of Egbedi, Oba Muideen Azeez.
The monarch who exonerated the Osun State government and Timi of Edeland, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal of complicity in the crisis rocking Egbedi, Iloba and Oloosape communities said the Egbedi monarch is responsible for the crisis in the communities
Oloosape and Iloba communities whose inhabitants are predominantly farmers have been deserted by residents following alleged attack from their neighbouring Egbedi community.
A community leader, Prince Adesoji Aderemi posited that both historical and legal evidences that pointed to the fact that the Timi of Edeland owns the land on which the three communities settled abound saying that Elegbedi ancestors recognised the Timi of Edeland as the traditional head of Egbedi, Iloba and Oloosape..
Prince Aderemi who was flanked by chiefs from the two communities faulted the claim by the Elegbedi that, indigenes of the communities were arrested in connection with violence attack on Egbedi.
They pleaded with Osun State government and security agencies for diligence investigations and prosecution to check the excesses of Oba Muideen Azeez for peace to reign in the communities.
