Osun Govt Denies Attack On Sunshine FC

The Osun State Government on Wednesday, denied the allegation of attack on Sunshine Football Club players by Osun United Football Club supporters.

The Ondo State Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Mr. Saka Yusuf Ogunleye had alleged at a press conference that supporters of the Osun United Football Club attacked the Sunshine players and injured some of them in the match played at Dipo-Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode.

Addressing a press conference in Osogbo Wednesday, the Osun State Commissioner for Social Protection, Sports and Social Needs, Comrade Biyi Odunlade, said that the football match, played on September 23, 2017, was disrupted by thugs allegedly mobilised by Sunshine FC.

Odunlade, who expressed displeasure over the press conference addressed by his Ondo state counterpart, said that Ogunleye was not at the stadium where the football match was played.

He said necessary steps would be taken to present the case of Osun state to the appropriate authority with facts and pictorial evidence.

According to Odunlade, the press conference became necessary because of the “deceit, mischief and ungodliness of the Ondo state Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Mr. Saka Yusuf Ogunleye, who alleged at a press conference that supporters of the Osun United FC attacked the Sunshine players and injured some of them.

He expressed sadness that his Ondo state counterpart is a Commissioner, challenging him to produce evidence of his claim against Osun FC.

“We consider this allegation as a blatant lie, vituperations from the pit of hell and desperate attempt to lure  unsuspecting members of the public into misconstruing the true report on the brutalization of our players, officials, supporters and fans to earn unjustified public sympathy.

“May I quickly establish the fact that hooliganism and violence are synonymous with the Sunshine Stars of Akure as it has caused untold hardships and pains on many Nigerian clubs in the past and get banished from its Akure home ground.

“It is worth knowing and noting that the fact that the Ondo Commissioner for Sport, who cooked up the lies against Osun FC was not in Ijebu-Ode with us.

“If Mr. Ogunleye could publicly lie the way he did against the viciously attacked innocent supporters of Osun FC, then, we dare say that he lacks the integrity and credibility to be part of any upright administration.

“We have both video and photo evidence to buttress our claims and we challenge Ondo state Commissioner for Sport to produce the pictures of any of its vehicle vandalised”, Odunlade stated.
