Osun NURTW Begs Adeleke To Lift Ban On Its Activities
Osun State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has pleaded with Governor Ademola Adeleke to lift the ban the state government imposed on the activities of the union in the state.
The acting state chairman of the union, Alhaji Kazeem Oyewale who made the plea yesterday during the stakeholders meeting held at the zonal headquarters of the union in Osogbo said the embargo placed on members activities has blocked their means of livelihoods.
He also begged for the intervention of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, and other traditional rulers across the state on the matter, pleading with them to intercede on their behalf.
Oyewale stated that since the union was proscribed late November, 2022, despite the fact that the union (NURTW) is known as one of the major employers of labour and major contributors to the country’s economy, it has become difficult for members to carry out their responsibility in their families.
According to him, NURTW is known to be one of the major employers of labour and major contributors to the country’s economy adding that their withdrawal from service will no doubt have negative impact on the state economy.
He noted the recent needless attack, harassment, intimidation and threat to lives of their members by alleged members of Osun State Transport Management Service (OSTMS) in their various motor parks in the state adding that some of their members were ejected from their parks where they eke their daily living.
His words: “The members of OSTMS and NURTW in the state are brothers of different age group, religious background and different political affiliations typical of a setting of democratic system.
Comrade Oyewale added that these diversity should be the pride and strength of the state and nation at large, than causing hatred and fight among brothers.
He urged members of the union to be law abiding and remain focused adding that Governor Adeleke as the father of all, has listening ear and will soon do the needful for the betterment of Osun residents.
Oyewale commended the NURTW Acting Zonal Chairman Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo for his effort to return normalcy to the state council of the union.
