Osun Speaker Joins Guber Race
Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Najeem Folasayo Salaam Thursday debunked social media report that he has abandoned his gubernatorial ambition on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
Salaam who was heralded to the state party secretariat by unprecedented crowd of supporters to formally declare his intention said the report that he had stepped down was “fake and baseless”.
He also declared his support for the emergence of the next governor of the state from Osun West senatorial district “in the interest of fairness, justice and equity”
Going memory lane, Salaam said the late Isiaka Adeleke who came from the West, only spent 22 months as Governor of the state while Chief Bisi Akande spent four years and Olagunsoye Oyinlola, two terms, both from the Central district.
He noted further that the incumbent, Governor Rauf Aregbesola who will complete two terms of eight years in November came from Osun East senatorial district.
Still on the alleged abandonment of his governorship ambition, the Speaker explained that the meeting he held in Lagos with Governors Rauf Aregbesola, Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos state, and the Chairman of the party in the state, Prince Gboyega Famoodun, was targeted at ensuring victory for the party in the coming election.
Reacting to the allegation of incompetency, Salaam boasted that he is eminently qualified to govern the state with his experience from councilor to the number three citizen in the state.
He prayed for the required wisdom for the executive of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the selection of party’s candidate for the September 22 governorship election.
In his response, the chairman of the party, Prince Gboyega Famoodun promised a level playing ground for all aspirants during the primary election.
He however urged the Speaker to work assiduously for the victory of the party on September 22, 2018.
