Police Arrest Two For Illegal Arms, Attempted Murder

The Niger State Police Command has arrested two men in separate incidents involving illegal firearms and attempted culpable homicide.

In a statement on Monday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, said that on Friday, October 9, a police patrol team attached to New-Bussa Division, alongside vigilante members, intercepted 40-year-old Yahaya Dashu of Daba area, New-Bussa, along Luma-Wawa Road.

Abiodun said Dashu was found with a locally made pistol and one live cartridge.

“During interrogation, he stated that the pistol belonged to him and it was for his personal protection.

“He claimed that he bought it from a blacksmith in Babana, Borgu LGA,” Abiodun said.

He said the suspect has since been transferred to SCID Minna for further investigation and prosecution.

In a separate incident, on October 13 at about 8:30 a.m., the Maje Division received a distress call that 26-year-old Shuaibu Adamu of Kaduna Road, a member of a local hunters group, had shot 46-year-old Adamu Saidu at Suleja Junction using a locally made revolver. Police operatives rushed to the scene and found Saidu, a driver, shot in the back.

“He was immediately rushed to the general hospital in Suleja for treatment, while Shuaibu was arrested with the gun.

“The suspect is under investigation,” Abiodun stated.

The command said investigations are ongoing in both cases, and further prosecution will follow as required by law.
