Teenager Arrested For Removing Seven-year-old Sister’s Eyes In Bauchi – Police
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 17-year-old boy, Auwal Dahiru, and five others for allegedly plucking out the eyes of his seven-year-old sister, Rukayya Muhammad, in a suspected money ritual attempt in Bayan Dutse Village, Wailo, Kubi Ward, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil.
“A preliminary investigation’s findings exposed that a 7-year-old girl, Rukayya Muhammad, tragically lost her eyesight permanently after her elder brother, Auwalu Muhammad, removed both of her eyes for a money ritual in a desperate attempt to gain wealth.
“The victim’s father was interviewed, who disclosed that the suspect (Auwalu) lured his sister, who shared the same parents, into the bush, where he brutally attacked her and forcefully plucked her eyes,” the statement read.
The PPRO said the Divisional Police Officer, Aliyu Goni swiftly led a team of detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested while the victim was immediately rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for medical attention.
“Unfortunately, a medical doctor (eye specialist) at the hospital confirmed that the young girl will never regain her vision for the rest of her life,” the statement read.
Wakil further disclosed that other suspects were arrested in connection with the crime including Mohammed Rabiu, 19, Saleh Ibrahim, 20, Nasiru Muhammad of Soro town, Hassan Garba of Soro town, and Garba Dahiru, 43.
He said all the suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime during interrogation.
“The investigation is ongoing to uncover the motive behind their heinous act and bring all individuals connected to justice,” Wakil added.
A clash between soldiers and operatives of the Police in Bauchi State, earlier this month, led to the death of a police operative, Constable Ukasha Muhammed.
Confirming the incident in a statement, Wakil said the confrontation occurred on October 10, 2025, in the Bayan Gari area of Bauchi metropolis.
He explained that the command received a distress report concerning a serious altercation involving a patrol team led by Inspector Hussaini Samaila during a routine operation.
