Police Arraign 6 Men For Stealing 45,000 Litres Of Dangote’s Diesel
Six men, Olugbode Abayomi, 55; Ahmad Abdullahi 38; Yahaya Musa, 58; Abdullahi Muhammadu, 52; were today arraigned before Yaba Chief Magistrate Court, for alleged conspiracy, stealing and diverting 145 litres of Automated Gas Oil, also called diesel.
The six men were arraigned the allegations before the court presided over by Magistrate E. Kubeinje.
Arraigning the six defendants, Barrister Morufu Animashaun leading A. O. Okunuga, of the legal department of the Force Criminal Investigation Department ForceCID Annex Alagbon-Ikoyi Lagos, told the court the all the defendants committed the alleged acts between January 26 and 27, 2025, at about 1300 hours at Dangote Refineries, Ibeju Lekki Lagos State.
Barrister Animashaun told the court that the diesel allegedly stolen and diverted by the six men, valued N142 million and belongs to Mr. Bolaji Animashaun.
Barrister Animashaun further told the court that the illegal acts of the defendants are contrary to Sections 411 and 280 and punishable under section 287(5) of the Criminal Law Ch. C17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State 2015
The six defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, when it was read to them.
Following their plea of not guilty, their lawyer, I. K. Abdulsalam, orally moved their bail applications, and urged the court to admit them to bail in the most liberal terms.
Ruling of the bail application, the Magistrate, Mr. Kubeinje, admitted each of the six men to bail in the sum of N10 million with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate also ordered that the sureties must be residents within the court jurisdiction, with the evidence of three years tax and evidence of means of livelihood.
The Magistrate however ordered that all the defendants be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services NCoS pending the perfection of the bail conditions.
Further hearing of the charge has been fixed for April 23, for mention.
Charges against the defendants read: “That you, Olugbode Abayomi “M”, Ahmad Abdullahi “m”, Yahaya Musa “M”, Abdullahi Muhammadu “M”, Ibrahim Halihu “m”, Adamu Muhammed ‘m’ and others (now at large) between 26 and 27 January 2025, at about 1300 hours at Dangote Refineries, Ibeju Lekki Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District conspired amongst yourselves to commit a felony: to wit Stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law Ch. C17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State 2015
“That you, Olugbode Abayomi “m”, Ahmad Abdullahi “m”, Yahaya Musa, “m’ Abdullahi Muhammadu “M”, Ibrahim Halihu “m”, Adamu Muhammed “m” and others ( now at large) between 26th and 27th January 2025, at about 1300 hours at Dangote Refineries, Ibeju Lekki Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, dishonestly took delivery and diverted 45,000 litres of AGO (Diesel) Products valued N142, 000,000 (one hundred and forty-two million Naira) property of one Alhaji Bolaji Animashaun, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 280 and punishable under Section 287 (5) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.”
