Police Vow Safer Digital Space, Mobilise Public Against Cyber Threats
The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre has intensified efforts to combat the growing menace of online crimes with a one-day Cybercrime Awareness Campaign held in Abuja, aimed at promoting digital literacy, responsible online behaviour, and public resilience against cyber threats.
The NPF–NCCC was established as a specialised unit under the Nigeria Police Force to combat the growing wave of cyber-enabled crimes in the country, including online fraud, identity theft, financial scams, and cyberbullying.
The centre works closely with key institutions such as the Nigerian Communications Commission, the National Information Technology Development Agency, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to enhance Nigeria’s capacity in cybercrime prevention, investigation, and digital forensics.
A statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Sunday, partly read, “The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF–NCCC) has successfully concluded its one-day Cybercrime Awareness Campaign held in Abuja, marking a significant stride in educating Nigerians on online safety, promoting secure digital practices, and strengthening the nation’s collective defense against cyber threats.
It added that speaking at the event, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Sadiq Abubakar, reiterated the Force’s commitment to ensuring a safe digital environment for Nigerians.
“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, who was ably represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), DIG Sadiq Abubakar, reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring a safer digital space for all Nigerians”, the statement quoted the IG as saying.
In his welcome address, the Director of the NPF–NCCC, CP Uche Henry, commended partners and stakeholders for their consistent collaboration and support in advancing national cybersecurity goals.
