Residents Block Third Mainland Bridge To Protest Demolition
Residents of the Oworonshoki community on Monday blocked a section of the Third Mainland Bridge to protest the demolition of structures in the area.
It was gathered that the residents are occupants of the unapproved buildings along the Iyana Oworosonki coastal line who were displaced on Saturday after a combined enforcement team from the Lagos State Government commenced demolition.
The affected residents had reportedly been served a one-month quit notice but refused to vacate.
Reacting to the protest, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Lagos State Governor, Jubril Gawat, confirmed that normalcy had been restored.
He wrote on X, “UPDATE: Road opened now, Men of the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos Command have cleared the Road. @BenHundeyin. The Backlog on the bridge is till much BUT moving steadily.”
